Retired FBI Agent Outlines 'Critical' Steps in Search for Missing American Student in Dominican Republic

 


Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, vanished on March 6, 2025, during a spring break trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. She was last seen around 4:15 a.m., walking toward the beach with a group, including 24-year-old Joshua Steven Riibe, who has been named a person of interest in her disappearance.

Retired FBI Special Agent John Iannarelli emphasized the importance of immediate and coordinated investigative efforts in such cases. He highlighted the necessity of securing and reviewing surveillance footage, conducting thorough interviews with all individuals present, and analyzing electronic communications for potential leads. Iannarelli also stressed collaboration with local authorities and international agencies to expand the search and gather intelligence.

The ongoing investigation involves the FBI, Dominican National Police, the U.S. and Indian Embassies, and local authorities. Search efforts have been extensive, employing drones, helicopters, and detection dogs, particularly around the island's east coast. Despite these efforts, Konanki's whereabouts remain unknown.

Authorities continue to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding Konanki's disappearance, with her family urging a comprehensive investigation into all possibilities, including kidnapping or human trafficking. The case remains open, and efforts to locate Konanki are ongoing.
